Travelers
often follow a common trajectory, beginning close to
home, then venturing farther and farther afield in
search of more interesting and novel experiences and
environments. We have certainly followed that path,
first seeing a good bit of the USA, then Western Europe,
Eastern Europe, the Middle East, and parts of South
America, Africa, and Asia roughly in that order. In the
past several years, South America has become our most
frequent destination. Our travels have increasingly
focused on two goals: (1) encountering native peoples
and cultures and/or (2) visiting sites of archeological
or geological interest (e.g., jungles, waterfalls, and
glaciers).
We are a couple who love to travel as much as possible
around our work schedules. While for the most part we
are independent budget travelers, we have traveled a few
times on tours, when it was either more practical or
safer (Papua New Guinea), more economical (East Africa
safaris), or when we thought we would gain a fuller
appreciation of the country and its peoples (Bolivia). We do these
trip write-ups mainly for ourselves--it really enhances
memories of a trip--and we are happy to share them with
anyone who is interested.
We are Judi and Larry Fenson. Judi is
a researcher at SDSU
and UCSD working on
grants on language and cognitive development. Larry is a
professor at
SDSU, teaching and conducting research in child
development. Our son, Brett Fenson, is our webmaster. Travel is our passion.
